Transport Committee to meet key players in Garth Brooks concerts cancellation

9 Iúil 2014, 17:54

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport and Communications has this morning called a meeting to assess the fallout from the cancellation of Garth Brooks concerts in Croke Park. The meeting will take place in Leinster House on Friday 11 July at 11 am.

9 July 2014

Chairman of the Committee John O’Mahony TD says \"The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport and Communications this morning agreed to request the attendance of key parties involved in the staging of the Garth Brooks concert. The Committee agreed to invite the representatives of Dublin City Council, Aitken Promotions and the GAA to attend. The Committee shadows the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport and is gravely concerned at the damage to Ireland's reputation caused by the cancellation of the concerts, particularly given the upward trend in tourism numbers in recent years. The purpose of the meeting is to hear from each key player on the chain of events that have led to the cancellation of the planned Garth Brooks concert. Note the meeting will not address the planning/legal issues. Rather it is to hear at first hand about their respective roles in the arrangements for the concert from when first mooted up to the final announcement of their cancellation.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow Friday 11 July at 11 am in Committee Room 4, LH 2000. The meeting can be viewed online here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
