The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine has this afternoon welcomed the publication of the Indecon report into realising the potential of the greyhound industry.

The Review of Certain Matters Related to Bord na gCon was published earlier this week. The Committee agreed to prioritise the issues raised in the report by inviting the Minister for Agriculture and his officials, as well as the Chairman and CEO of Bord na gCon before the Committee in the autumn.
Committee Chairman Andrew Doyle says: “There was a broad welcome for the publication of this important report from Committee Members at this morning’s meeting. Committee Members have agreed to prioritise the issues raised on our work programme for later in the year. In consideration of the report’s findings and recommendations, we intend to invite the senior Minister, or relevant Minister, at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, who commissioned the report, as well as the Chairman and CEO of Bord na gCon. The greyhound industry is an important economic driver in many rural areas of the country and key to the Committee’s deliberations will be to ensure that that a vibrant future for the sector can be secured. ”
