Enterprise Ireland annual report and meeting with PIAB Chairman Designate on Jobs Committee agenda

14 Iúil 2014, 16:59

Enterprise Ireland’s annual report for last year and the agency’s progress to date in enterprise and job creation, including the National Micro Enterprise Policy, will be the focus of the Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation tomorrow, Tuesday, 15th July 2014 when it meets with Julie Sinnamon, Chief Executive, Enterprise Ireland.

The Committee will also meet with Dermot Divilly, Chairman Designate of the Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB).

The schedule for tomorrow’s meeting is:

Session A: 1.45 p.m. Enterprise Ireland’s Annual Report 2013 and progress to date, including the National Micro Enterprise Policy - Julie Sinnamon, Chief Executive, Enterprise Ireland.

Session B: 2.45 p.m. Engagement with Dermot Divilly, Chairman Designate, Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB).

Committee Chairman Damien English TD said: “Enterprise Ireland is the government organisation responsible for the development and growth of Irish enterprises in world markets. Tomorrow we will have an opportunity to discuss the 2013 annual report in more detail with Enterprise Ireland chief executive Julie Sinnamon and receive a briefing on progress by the agency in the current year, with a particular focus on the National Micro Enterprise Policy. It is also an opportunity to outline what she sees as the priorities and challenges for the agency.

“Following this meeting, we will engage with Dermot Divilly, Chairman Designate, Personal Injuries Assessment Board. The Injuries Board has been in existence for 10 years, having been set up in 2004 by the Irish Government to assess claims for compensation for anyone who has been in an accident and suffered an injury. A self-funded entity, InjuriesBoard.ie assesses claims for compensation without the need for many of the costs and fees usually associated with personal injury claims. Since the Board was set up, it has significantly reduced the amount of time it takes to resolve a claim from roughly three years to nine months, in most cases.

“Under the Programme for Government, those who are being proposed for appointment as chairpersons of State boards may be required to make themselves available to the appropriate Oireachtas Committee. Our Committee looks forward to meeting with Dermot Divilly, Chairman Designate of the Personal Injuries Assessment Board to discuss his vision for the board. Committee members will have a chance to raise any issues they may have, such as any further opportunities to reduce insurance costs and ease the burden for consumers and business in Ireland.”

This meeting will start at 1.30pm on Tuesday, 15th July 2014 in Committee Room 2, Leinster House.

Committee proceedings can be followed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
