Finance Committee to conduct pre-Budget submissions hearings with civil society, professional, business and industry groups

The Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform will begin 2015 pre-Budget submission hearings tomorrow, Tuesday, 15th July 2014. Over the course of three days, it will meet with representatives from civil society, professional, business and industry groups.

The schedule for this week’s hearings is:

Tuesday, 15th July 2014

2.30 pm – Session 1: Economy and Taxation
Representatives from Think Tank for Action on Social Change (TASC); Chambers Ireland; Drinks Industry Group Ireland (DIGI); and Irish Business Employers’ Confederation (IBEC).

Wednesday, 16th July 2014

Session A: 2.00 pm – 4.30 pm – Session 2: Social Protection
Representatives from Irish Rural Link; Social Justice Ireland; Home and Community Care Ireland (HCCI); European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN); Saint Vincent de Paul (SVP); and Free Legal Advice Centres (FLAC).

Session B: 5.00 pm – 7.00 pm – Session 3: Environment and Housing
Representatives from the Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers (IAPV); Simon Communities in Ireland; Focus Ireland; and Threshold.

Thursday, 17th July 2014

Session A: 10.00 am – 12 noon – Session 4: Health
Representatives from the Royal College of Physicians (IRCP); Irish Heart Foundation; Irish Cancer Society; The Alzheimer Society of Ireland; Mental Health Reform; and Acquired Brain Injury Ireland (ABI)

Session B: 12.15 pm – 2.15 pm – Session 5: Agriculture and Transport
Representatives from the Irish Farmers' Association (IFA); Irish Creameries and Milk Suppliers Association (ICMSA); Blackwater Motors and Audi Cork; and Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA)

Committee Chairman Ciarán Lynch TD said: “Pre-Budget engagement is an important component of this Committee’s work and we will wish to explore the budgetary challenges facing the State and how they may impact on various sectors of industry and society. This week, we will meet with groups from the social pillar and business and industry sectors and professional organisations on issues raised in their pre-Budget submissions. It is an opportunity for Members to explore various issues of national concern ahead of this year’s Budget.”

These meetings will start tomorrow, Tuesday, 15th July 2014 at 2.30pm in Committee Room 4, Leinster House 2000.
