Transport Committee to hear from Dublin City Council Chief Executive on Garth Brooks concerts

14 Iúil 2014, 15:58

The Chief Executive of Dublin City Council Owen Keegan will appear before the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport and Communications tomorrow morning to discuss the Council’s role in concert licencing.

14 July 2014

Last week, the Committee agreed to request the attendance of key parties involved in the staging of the Garth Brooks concerts. Representatives of the GAA and Aiken Promotions are scheduled to appear before the Committee on Wednesday to discuss the issue.

Chairman of the Committee John O’Mahony TD says “Last week, the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport and Communications agreed to request the attendance of key parties involved in the staging of the Garth Brooks concerts. The Committee agreed to invite the representatives of Dublin City Council, Aiken Promotions and the GAA to attend. The Committee notes the ongoing efforts in reinstating the concerts and remains hopeful that a satisfactory resolution can be found.

“The Committee shadows the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport and is gravely concerned at the damage to Ireland's reputation caused by the cancellation of the concerts, particularly given the upward trend in tourism numbers in recent years. The purpose of both meetings is to hear from each key player on the chain of events that have led to the cancellation of the planned Garth Brooks concerts.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow Tuesday 15 July at 11 am in Committee Room 4, LH 2000. The meeting will be broadcast live on Oireachtas UPC Channel 207 and can be viewed online here.

The meeting on Wednesday 16 July with representatives of the GAA and Aiken Promotions is expected to commence at 11 am.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
