Ceann Comhairle pays tribute to Albert Reynolds

21 Lún 2014, 15:41

Ceann Comhairle Seán Barrett TD, has offered condolences on behalf of the Dáil to the family and friends of former Taoiseach Albert Reynolds, who passed away this morning aged 81.

21 August 2014

Ceann Comhairle Seán Barrett TD says: “It is with deep sadness that I learned of the death of Albert Reynolds this morning. Mr Reynolds was first elected to the Dáil as TD for the Longford/Westmeath constituency in 1977 and served in various Ministries with distinction before becoming Taoiseach in 1992. As Taoiseach, he used his considerable political skills to foster a lasting peace on our island, laying the building blocks for the Good Friday Agreement.

\"He will be remembered with fondness around Leinster House as a warm, hardworking and approachable parliamentarian, who displayed enormous courage during his tenure as Taoiseach in progressing the peace process. On behalf of the Members of Dáil Éireann and on my own behalf, I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to his family and many friends.”
