The Chairman of the Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement Frank Feighan TD has this morning offered his condolences to the family and friends of Albert Reynolds, who died this morning.

Deputy Feighan TD says: “Albert Reynolds achieved much in business and politics in an extraordinary life, but it is his role in securing peace on our island that will be his most enduring legacy.
“During his tenure as Taoiseach, Mr Reynolds made an indelible contribution to the peace process. An accomplished negotiator, he displayed great courage, skill and single-mindedness in keeping the channels of communications open with republicans and loyalists during a turbulent period. His strong partnership with then British Prime Minister John Major led to the signing of the landmark Downing Street Declaration, which would pave the way for the Good Friday and St Andrew’s Agreements.
“On behalf of the Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement, and on my own behalf, I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Albert Reynolds.”
