Transport Committee to engage with Chair Designate of Waterford Port

16 MFómh 2014, 16:47

The Chairman Designate of the Port of Waterford Company Des Whelan will appear before the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport and Communications tomorrow morning.

16 September 2014

Chairman of the Committee John O’Mahony TD says “Under the Programme for Government, those who are being proposed for appointment as chairpersons of State boards are required to make themselves available to the appropriate Oireachtas Committee. Tomorrow, we will have the opportunity to hear from Des Whelan on the approach he proposes to take to further develop the Port of Waterford.

“The port has many geographic advantages, including being the closest Irish multi-modal port to continental Europe. On 30 August, the Port hosted three cruise ships for the first time ever, and the Committee will also be keen to assess how this lucrative tourism market can be enhanced. Following tomorrow’s discussion, a transcript of the meeting will be forwarded for consideration by the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Paschal Donohoe TD.”

The meeting commences tomorrow Wednesday 17 September at 11:30 am and can be viewed online here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
