Committee Chairman, Jerry Buttimer TD said: “Tomorrow we will resume our hearings on addressing the implications of concussion in sport, an issue which is causing growing concern in the sporting and medical worlds due to the increasing physicality and speed of sports at professional and amateur levels.

“Following on from our very productive and thought-provoking meeting last week, we will meet with medical experts, representatives from sports organisations and departmental officials to consider the issue in greater detail and get their perspectives on how to address the implications of concussion in sports.

“The aim of this meeting and our previous hearings is to prepare a report with recommendations for the future development of training, protocols and support systems for players. As a result, this will assist in preventing serious injury from concussion in sporting activities.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 2, Leinster House at 9.30am tomorrow, Thursday, 9th October 2014.
