Justice Committee to meet Chief Commissioner Designate of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission

Committee Chairman David Stanton TD said: “Under the Programme for Government, those who are being proposed for appointment as chairpersons of State boards are required to make themselves available to the appropriate Oireachtas Committee. Our Committee played an important role in considering the Heads of the Bill which replaced the Equality Authority and the Human Rights Commission with a new Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission when we undertook a focussed consultation process with civil society and interested parties on its content. Tomorrow will be our first opportunity to engage with Emily Logan, Chief Commissioner Designate, the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission when she will have an opportunity to outline what she sees as the priorities and challenges for the Commission in the immediate period ahead and into the future. Committee members will have a chance to raise any issues they may have on the Commission.”

This meeting will take place at 2pm on Wednesday, 8th October 2014 in Committee Room 2.
