Health & Children Committee to discuss coping with stillbirth loss

15 DFómh 2014, 14:05

Coping with stillbirth loss will be on the agenda of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children tomorrow, Thursday, 16th October 2014 when it meets with Jacinta Murphy, Chairperson; Mairie Cregan, Training and Research Officer; and Brian Roche, founding member of Feileacain, the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Association of Ireland.

Committee Chairman, Jerry Buttimer TD said: “Today is Pregnancy and Infant loss Remembrance Day, so it is fitting that our first meeting tomorrow should focus on coping with stillbirth loss.  The death of a baby during pregnancy or shortly after birth is devastating and the emotional pain is indescribable for all involved.  Féileacáin, the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Association of Ireland, is a newly formed, not for profit organisation that aims to offer support to anyone affected by the death of a baby during pregnancy or shortly after. Tomorrow, we will meet with Féileacáin to discuss its work in helping people to cope with sillbirth loss.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 2, Leinster House at 9.30am tomorrow, Thursday, 16th October 2014.

Committee proceedings can be followed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
