The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Social Protection will tomorrow consider the role of Primary School Boards of Management and their relationship with the Department of Education and Skills.

Chair of the Committee Joanna Tuffy TD says: “Tomorrow’s meeting will be a valuable opportunity to explore ongoing issues around the interaction of primary school boards with the Department of Education and Skills. Boards of Management have the responsibility to provide leadership and ensure effective management of schools within budget and a framework of accountability. The Committee are particularly interested in exploring issues relating to the accountability of the Boards and the transparency with which they perform their functions. We look forward to engaging with both the Catholic and CoI representative bodies, the main primary teachers' union and key Department Officials in this regard.\"
The meeting takes place at 1pm today Wednesday 22 October in Committee Room 3, LH 2000. The meeting can be viewed online here
