Finance Committee to meet Bank of Ireland CEO Richie Boucher as part of banking sector overview

4 Samh 2014, 14:29

The Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform will start its overview of the banking sector tomorrow, Wednesday, 5th November 2014 when it meets with Bank of Ireland Group Chief Executive Richie Boucher.

Committee Chairman Dr Liam Twomey TD said: “Earlier this year, the Finance Committee undertook an extensive series of hearings on mortgage arrears, meeting with all of the main players in the Irish banking sector and culminating in a report with a number of key recommendations. Tomorrow we will start hearings which will be taking a wider overview of the banking sector when we meet with Richie Boucher, Group Chief Executive of Bank of Ireland. This will be followed by meetings with senior executives from Permanent TSB, Ulster Bank and AIB next week. This overview is timely given the recent stress tests on banks which provided an indication of the general health of the banking sector here. It’s an opportunity for Members to question bank executives on their strategic priorities for their organisations, as well as discussing issues such as the disposal of the State’s shareholding, the impact of EU banking legislation, commercial lending and mortgage related matters.”

This meeting will take place at 2pm on Wednesday, 5th November 2014 in Committee Room 4.

Committee proceedings can be followed live here.
