Environment Committee to consider Doha Amendment to the Kyoto Protocol

Approval of the terms of the Doha Amendment to the Kyoto Protocol will be on the agenda of the Select Sub Committee on the Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht when it meets with Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government Alan Kelly TD tomorrow, Tuesday, 11th November 2014.

Michael McCarthy TD, Chairman of the Committee, said: “The amendment to the Kyoto Protocol establishing a second commitment period was agreed at the UN Climate Change Conference in Doha, Qatar in December 2012. This ‘Doha Amendment’ establishes a second commitment period under the Kyoto Protocol, starting on 1st January 2013 and ending on 31st December 2020, with legally binding emission reduction commitments. The EU and Member States agreed to participate in the second commitment period. Tomorrow, we will consider approval of the terms of the Doha Amendment to the Kyoto Protocol with Minister Kelly.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 4, Leinster House at 4pm tomorrow, Tuesday, 11th November 2014.
