Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht to appear before Environment Committee

Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Heather Humphreys will appear before the Committee on the Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht tomorrow, Tuesday, 25th November 2014 to discuss future plans for the Department. The Committee will also discuss planning and development issues and carry out scrutiny of EU proposals.

The schedule for the meeting is:

i) Scrutiny of EU legislative proposals: COM(2012)499, COM(2012)712; COM(2012)416;
(ii) Planning and Development in Ireland Mary Hughes, President, Irish Planning Institute; and
(iii) Engagement with the Minister on future plans for the Department Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht

Michael McCarthy TD, Chairman of the Committee, said: “The Department oversees the conservation, preservation, protection and presentation of Ireland's heritage and cultural assets.  The Department also seeks to promote the Irish language and to support the Gaeltacht. Tomorrow we will have an opportunity to concentrate on the priorities and challenges facing the Department in the coming years with the Minister.

“Before we meet the Minister, we will discuss planning and development in Ireland with President of the Irish Planning Institute Mary Hughes. The Irish Planning Institute is the professional body representing the majority of professional planners engaged in physical, spatial and environmental planning in Ireland and Irish planners practicing overseas. We’re looking forward to hearing from Mary Hughes and getting the Institute’s perspective on planning and development in Ireland.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 4, Leinster House at 2.15pm tomorrow, Tuesday, 25th November 2014 with scrutiny of a number of EU legislative proposals:

COM(2012)499 - Proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on the statute and funding of European political parties and European political foundations

COM(2012)712 - Proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Regulation (EU, Euratom) No 966/2012 as regards the financing of European political parties

COM(2012)416 - Proposal for a decision of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Directive 2003/87/EC clarifying provisions on the timing of auctions of greenhouse gas allowances
