Health & Children Committee to focus on HIV issues

26 Samh 2014, 14:56

The Committee on Health and Children will focus on advances in testing opportunities for HIV and enhancing engagement with health services at its meeting tomorrow, Thursday, 27th November 2014 when it will hear from Tiernan Brady, Director of Gay HIV Strategies, Gay and Lesbian Equality Network (GLEN); Deirdre Seery, CEO, Cork Sexual Health Centre; and Peter Foley, Letsgetchecked.com.

Committee Chairman Jerry Buttimer TD said: “With World AIDS Day taking place next Monday, 1st December 2014, it timely that our Committee should focus on a number of HIV issues, in particular advances in testing opportunities for HIV and enhancing engagement with health services. HIV is a preventable and treatable condition, so it is important that we encourage and help people to be proactive about looking after their sexual health and to engage with health services. Great strides have been made in testing technologies and early diagnosis is crucial in improving the long-term health outcomes for people and preventing further transmission of HIV. ”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 2, Leinster House at 9.30am tomorrow, Thursday, 27th November 2014.

Committee proceedings can be followed live here.
