Health & Children Committee to visit site of proposed Children’s Hospital

1 Noll 2014, 10:25

The Committee on Health and Children will receive a briefing from the Project Board of the proposed Children’s Hospital at the St James’s Hospital Campus in Dublin on Tuesday, 2nd December 2014.

Committee Chairman Jerry Buttimer TD said: “We are looking forward to our visit to the site of the proposed National Children’s Hospital to see, at first hand, the proposed layout of the new hospital.  We will also receive a briefing from the Project Board on progress made to date.  Our briefing will include an update from the design team, information on projected costs, the overall project timeline, planning permission and other planning issues.

“This is a critical piece of national infrastructure. It is important that it is delivered on time, on budget, and that it will meet the future needs of Irish families. The Committee is also very interested in hearing about plans for an on-site maternity hospital.  We want to make sure that the project covers all necessary peripheral services, so that pre and post-natal care services can be carried out on the site of the new hospital.\"

Among those who will be briefing the Committee are:

•    Eilísh Hardiman from the Children's Hospital Group Board;
•    Tom Costello and John Pollock from the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board;
•    Benedict Zucchi from BDP who is leading the Design Team;
•    Representatives from St James's Hospital.

The meeting will take place at 1pm and will be followed by an inspection of the footprint of the site at approximately 2pm. At this point there will photo/filming/interview opportunities with Committee members during the inspection at approximately 2pm.
