Justice Committee to focus on the effects of gangland crime on communities

9 Noll 2014, 12:46

The effects of Gangland Crime on the Community will be on the agenda of the Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality tomorrow, Wednesday, 10th December 2014 when it meets with representatives from the Association for Criminal Justice Research and Development; Citywide Drugs Crisis Campaign; Dublin North East Drugs Task Force; and The Probation Service.

Committee Chairman David Stanton TD said: “The increase in gangland or organised crime, along with the rise in the level of violence involved in those crimes, has a huge impact on many communities throughout the country and is an issue of concern, not just for those communities but for society as a whole. As part of our work programme, Deputy Finian McGrath has agreed to produce a report with recommendations on the Gangland Crime issue. Earlier in the year, the Committee sought submissions from interested groups or individuals in relation to the effects of gangland crime on communities throughout Ireland. We are interested to hear what can be done, in addition to present efforts, to protect and aid citizens and local communities affected by gangland crime. Tomorrow, we will meet wth representatives from the Association for Criminal Justice Research and Development; Citywide Drugs Crisis Campaign; Dublin North East Drugs Task Force; and The Probation Service and we are looking forward to getting their perspectives on the issue.”

This meeting will start at 10am on Wednesday, 10th December 2014 in Committee Room 2.
