10 Noll 2014, 16:02

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions will tomorrow afternoon consider a range of public petitions received from individual citizens relating to concerns about the delivery of public services.

10 December 2014

The Petitions scheduled for consideration by the Committee tomorrow related to:

  •     Need for provision to be made for the compensation of victims of uninsured aircraft operators (John Dunphy)
  •     Directly Elected Mayor for Dublin (Catherine Heaney and the Let Dublin Vote campaign, in addition to other supporters)
  •     Tendering of the Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (Deirdre McCarthy and the Dublin Inner City Community Alliance)
  •     Public Appointments Service panel for positions at the Garda Síochána Ombudsman commission (Paul Hanna)

Chairman of the Committee Pádraig Mac Lochlainn TD says: “Committee Members look forward to carefully considering petitions received from members of the public on a range of issues, including those related to compensation of uninsured aircraft, a call for a directly elected Mayor of Dublin, the tendering of social inclusion programmes and the appointment process for positions at GSOC.”

“The Oireachtas petitions system is a direct channel for individual citizens and groups across Ireland to influence the parliamentary agenda. Creating a petition is simple and the process has been designed to be open, user-friendly and accessible to all. There is a standard form which we request all petitioners to complete, which is available at petitions.oireachtas.ie and can be completed and submitted online, emailed or sent by post.”

The meeting will commence tomorrow Thursday 11 December at 1:15 pm in private session in Committee Room 4, LH 2000. Public proceedings, which are anticipated to commence at 1:45 pm, can be viewed online here.
