Historic Dublin Castle Pamphlets made available to European researchers

A historic collection of 1,600 pamphlets, which document major political and social events in Ireland during the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, has just been made accessible to European historians, researchers and interested citizens via a major online research portal.

The Dublin Castle Pamphlets have been published on the Europeana database, which is a trusted source of cultural heritage managed by the Europeana Foundation and a large number of European cultural institutions, projects and partners.

Together, their assembled collections allow users worldwide, to explore Europe's history from ancient times to the modern day. It can be accessed on www.europeana.eu

The Pamphlets were first published online by the Oireachtas Library and Research Service in 2013 and these and other historic collections and remain available on opac.oireachtas.ie.

Pamphlets are small booklets or leaflets containing information or arguments about a single subject.

Interesting examples include documents from 1754 relating to Ireland’s national debt:

The Oireachtas Library joins renowned cultural institutions such as the British Library in London, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the Louvre in Paris in making its material available to European researchers.
