The Joint Committee on Health and Children will convene tomorrow, Thursday 23rd July, in order to meet with representatives from the Health Service Executive (HSE) and the Beacon Hospital regarding the recent RTÉ Investigations Unit allegations that gifts and holidays were received by some hospitals’ staff in return for commercially sensitive information.

The RTÉ programme concentrated on the relationship between staff who coordinate the purchasing of medical goods for St Vincent’s Public Hospital and the Beacon Hospital with a surgical supplies firm.
Appearing before the Committee will be representatives from the HSE and the Beacon Hospital.
Committee Chair, Jerry Buttimer TD says: “The Health Committee has convened this special meeting in order to discuss potential breaches in hospital procurement practices in the light of allegations that hospital staff accepted holidays and gifts from a medical supplier.”
“At tomorrow’s meeting, Committee members will wish to discuss significant concerns about non-compliance with procurement guidelines in the health service. Our Committee will be keen to receive an update from the HSE and the Beacon hospital on this matter. It is important that we take steps to protect the integrity of the health service and ensure that all hospitals comply with procurement rules.”
The meeting will start in Committee Room 2, LH 2000, at 2pm tomorrow, Thursday, 23rd July 2015.
The meeting will also be broadcast live on Oireachtas TV on Sky Channel 574; UPC Channel 207 and eVision Channel 504.
