Communications Committee to meet Chair Designate of Inland Fisheries Ireland

The meeting will start at 11am in Committee Room 4, Leinster House, tomorrow, Wednesday 23rd September.

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications has a wide remit, which also encompasses the brief of Natural Resources.

Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) is the state agency responsible for the protection, management and conservation of Ireland's inland fisheries and sea angling resources.

Committee Chairman, John O’Mahony says:  “According to Inland Fisheries Ireland, Ireland has over 74,000 kilometres of rivers and streams and 128,000 hectares of lakes, all of which fall under the jurisdiction of IFI.”

“Our meeting with Fintan Gorman tomorrow will allow the Joint Committee to assess the direction Mr Gorman proposes to take the organisation in. Committee members will wish to hear about his expertise as well as his plans for the IFI’s future direction.”

“Ireland’s inland fisheries and sea angling resources play a vital role at both regional and national level, and our Committee is committed to their preservation and development.”

“Following the discussion tomorrow, a decision will be taken by the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources to confirm Fintan Gorman as Chair of Inland Fisheries Ireland. We look forward to contributing towards an open debate and assisting the Minister in his decision.”
