Finance Select sub-Committee to consider Motion on Double Taxation Agreements

22 MFómh 2015, 17:35

The Dáil Select sub-Committee on Finance will convene tomorrow to consider a motion on Double Taxation Agreements.

22nd September 2015

Minister of State at the Department of Finance, Public Expenditure & Reform, Simon Harris TD, will appear before the Committee.

Ireland has signed comprehensive Double Taxation Agreements with 72 countries, of which 68 are in effect. The Agreements cover direct taxes which in the case of Ireland are income tax, universal social charge, corporation tax and capital gains tax.

In total, 7 Orders will be discussed at the meeting tomorrow. These Orders relate to Double Taxation Agreements with Pakistan, Zambia and Ethiopia. The Agreements with Pakistan and Zambia are renegotiations of Agreements entered into in the 1970s.

One relates to a Protocol to the existing Double Taxation Agreement with Germany. The other three Orders relate to new Tax Information Exchange Agreements with the Bahamas, St. Kitts and Nevis, and Argentina - these provide for the exchange of tax information upon request between states.

The meeting takes place tomorrow Wednesday 23rd September at 4.30pm in Committee Room 4, Leinster House 2000.
