Irish Water to address Petitions Committee on water meter installation

22 MFómh 2015, 17:42

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions will meet with representatives from Irish Water and Officials from the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government (DECLG) to discuss issues around the installation of water meters.

22nd September 2015

Prior to this, the Committee will meet with Officials from the Department of Health to discuss to the Mobility Allowance and Motorised Transport Grant.

Tomorrow’s meeting will comprise two sessions:

Session A (4.15pm)

Briefing from Officials from the Department of Health regarding the Mobility Allowance and Motorised Transport Grant.

Session B (5.15pm)

Petition No. P2/15: Non-Compliant installation of Water Meter Boxes in vehicle access locations by Irish Water (Mr. Con O’Leary).

Chairman of the Committee Pádraig Mac Lochlainn TD says: “Tomorrow’s meeting will involve examination of two matters of great importance to the public. Firstly, we will engage with the Department of Health on the latest developments regarding the Mobility Allowance and the Motorised Transport Grant. Current recipients continue to receive their allowance although applications for new allowances have been closed since 2013. The issue of the Mobility Allowance and the Motorised Transport Grant were initially brought to our Committee through special reports by the then Ombudsman, Emily O’Reilly.”

“Secondly, we will deal with a Petition on the installation of water meters. The petition in question refers to possible issues of non-compliance by the installation companies relating to water meter boxes being installed in areas that are being accessed by vehicles. There is widespread public concern about the establishment and operations of Irish water; tomorrow’s meeting will afford us the opportunity to explore the issues raised in the petition.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow Wednesday 23rd September at 4 pm in Committee Room 3, Leinster House 2000.

Public proceedings can be followed live here

The meeting will also be broadcast live on Oireachtas TV on Sky Channel 574; UPC Channel 207 and eVision Channel 504.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
