Agriculture Committee to meet with IFA President on the Sheep and Dairy Sectors

5 DFómh 2015, 15:32

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will tomorrow meet with representatives from the Irish Farmer’s Association to discuss targeted support for the Irish sheep sector as well as income volatility in the dairy sector.

05th October 2015

The Committee will meet with representatives from the Irish Farmers Association, including Mr. Eddie Downey, President, to discuss the sheep sector in Ireland. This meeting also follows on from the recently launched Committee report entitled “Managing Market Volatility in the Dairy Industry”. This report examined the abolition of dairy quotas.

Committee Chairman, Andrew Doyle TD, said “Tomorrow’s meeting provides us with an excellent opportunity to discuss targeted supports for the sheep sector in Ireland with the IFA. We look forward to hearing from the IFA on a variety of topics including issues surrounding the Knowledge Transfer Programme and the Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme (TAMS) and its availability to those working in the Sheep Sector.”

“The level of unpredictability in income in the dairy sector is also a key issue for this Committee and for many farmers around the country. I look forward to engaging with representatives from the IFA and hearing about the experience of their members on the ground.”

The meeting will commence at 2.00 pm in Committee Room 3 tomorrow, Tuesday, 06th October 2015.
