Culture Committee to hear from IMRO representatives on the Irish Music Industry

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht will convene tomorrow to hear from Mr. Victor Finn, CEO, of the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) on their recently released report entitled “The Socio-Economic Contribution of Music to the Irish Economy”.

The meeting will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, 6th October at 2.15 pm in Committee Room 4, Leinster House.

Committee Chairman, Michael McCarthy TD, said: “This report gives us an excellent snapshot of the Irish music industry, an industry that contributes in the region €470m annually to the Irish economy, as it stands today. It also gives us valuable insight into how the future of the industry is being shaped and how it has changed so substantially over time.”

“We look forward to hearing from Mr. Finn on the findings and recommendations of the report including the proposal for a collaborative Music Industry Taskforce for Ireland which would look to influence policy in a number of key areas to ensure the future growth and success of this important industry.”

The Report identifies 6 strategic themes including finance, market access and intellectual property amongst others and is available here.
