EU Affairs Committee to engage with Europe Minister Dara Murphy

7 DFómh 2015, 11:03

The Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will meet with Minister of State with Special Responsibility for European Affairs, Dara Murphy TD, tomorrow to discuss plans to deepen EMU, as well as preparations for the October European Council meeting of EU leaders, at the General Affairs Council meeting (GAC).

7th October 2015

The General Affairs Council prepares for and follows up on meetings of the European Council and is also responsible for a number of cross-cutting policy areas, which include EU enlargement and accession negotiations, the EU's 7 year budget plan, cohesion policy, and EU institutional matters.

Tomorrow the Committee will also continue its consideration of the Five Presidents’ Report - Completing Europe’s Economic and Monetary Union (EMU).

Committee Chair, Dominic Hannigan, TD, says: “At this month’s GAC meeting, discussions are expected to focus on migration and the ongoing crisis in the Mediterranean. There will also be discussions on the Economic and Monetary Union and on plans for the referendum in the UK.”

“Our Committee published a Report in June of this year detailing the impact a British exit from the EU could have on Ireland, so members will be particularly interested in this aspect of discussions.”

The meeting will take place at 2pm in Committee Room 2, tomorrow, Thursday, 8th October 2015.

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

From 2pm – 4pm, the meeting will also be broadcast live on Oireachtas TV on Sky Channel 574; Virgin Media Channel 207 and eir Vision Channel 504.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
