6 MFómh 2016, 18:39

6 September 2016

The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will tomorrow meet with Professor Alan Barrett, Director of the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) and Dr. Kieran Mc Quinn, Research Professor at the ESRI, to continue their examination of the Economic and Fiscal Position of the State in advance of Budget 2017.

The meeting will commence at 2.00pm in Committee Room 3 tomorrow, Wednesday, 7 September 2016.

Committee Chairman, John Paul Phelan TD, said “The ESRI provides key economic and fiscal advice to the Government and it also examines the impact of policy proposals. To that end, this meeting provides an opportunity for our cross-party Committee to test the assumptions that should be the foundation on which Budget 2017 is built.”

“Tomorrow’s meeting affords and opportunity to develop further on the issues arising from  the evidence already heard from the Central Bank of Ireland and NERI and will enable the Committee to lay down parameters for Budget 2017 and, within those parameters, how best to utilise resources that arise from the improved state of the Irish economy.\"

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

The meeting will also be broadcast live on Oireachtas TV; Saorview Channel 22; Virgin Media Channel 207; Sky Channel 574; eir Vision Channel 504 and Vodafone Channel 201.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
