20 MFómh 2016, 13:57

20 September 2016

The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will tomorrow meet with the Minister for Public Expenditure & Reform, Paschal Donohoe TD, to discuss current and capital expenditure ahead of Budget 2017.

The meeting will commence at 2.00pm in Committee Room 2 tomorrow, Wednesday, 21 September 2016.

Committee Chairman, John Paul Phelan TD, said “Expenditure by the State amounts to over €55 billion in 2016 and so we very much look forward to discussing with Minister Donohoe how changing macro-economic factors will give scope to enhancing much needed public services.”

“The Committee has had extensive discussions on the need for more capital expenditure, given the bottlenecks that are developing in the economy, and our discussions with the Minister will see whether the Fiscal Rules may constrain the State from spending in areas such as housing, transport and communications. We will also want to see that adequate provision is made for demographic pressures that will push up the cost of delivering public services.”

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

The meeting will be broadcast live on Oireachtas TV; Saorview Channel 22; Virgin Media Channel 207; Sky Channel 574; eir Vision Channel 504 and Vodafone Channel 201.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
