Foreign Affairs Committee to hear from the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust

21 MFómh 2016, 15:00

21 September 2016

The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Defence will tomorrow meet with Mr. Colin Bell of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust. The trust was set up in late 2013 by Colin Bell following the death of his son Kevin in a road traffic accident in New York in June 2013. Its aim is to alleviate the financial hardship of bereaved families repatriating the body or bodies of loved ones, who have died abroad in sudden or tragic circumstances, back to Ireland.

The meeting will commence at 2.30pm in Committee Room 1 tomorrow, Thursday, 22 September 2016.

Committee Chairman, Brendan Smith TD, said “The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, which is a registered charity, was founded with the aim of helping those that most need it, at a time of great sadness. The cost associated with repatriating the remains of loved ones can be extremely stressful on families and so the Committee welcomes the opportunity to engage with Mr. Bell on the challenges, experiences and demand for the trust’s services.”

“The Trust operates on a 32 county basis and sources its funding through extensive and ongoing fundraising activities and dedicated volunteer support. As a Committee we welcome the opportunity to hear from Mr. Bell on how their activities can be supported in the future.”

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
