27 MFómh 2016, 16:41

27 September 2016

The Select Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport will tomorrow meet with the Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan TD, to consider the National Tourism Development Authority (Amendment) Bill 2015. This Bill seeks to increase the level of funding which can be provided to Fáilte Ireland for capital expenditure projects.

The meeting will commence at 10.30am in Committee Room 4 tomorrow, Wednesday, 28 September 2016.

Committee Chairman, Brendan Griffin TD, said “Tourism is a key part of Ireland’s growth and recovery model. It is a sector in which we have performed well traditionally as it boosts employment, provides a platform for the export of Irish goods and boosts social and economic growth across the country. It is important then, that we protect and grow our ability to attract tourists to all of the regions of Ireland.”

“This piece of legislation proposes to increase the cap for spending on capital tourism projects from €150m to €300m and so we welcome to this opportunity to engage with Minister O’Donovan on the importance of the sector, the need for increased funding and how it can be best put to use at both national and regional level.”
