5 DFómh 2016, 14:53

5 October 2016

The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Defence will tomorrow meet with Mr. Christos Stylianides, European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management.

The meeting will commence at 10.00am in Committee Room 1 tomorrow, Thursday, 6 October 2016.

Committee Chairman, Brendan Smith TD, said “Europe has recently seen the largest mass movement of people since the Second World War and this brings with it great challenges in terms of humanitarian aid and crisis management. We look forward now to this update from Commissioner Stylianides on how this is being managed, at Commission level, and what measures are being put in place across the Member States, to ensure that we assist those most in need.”

“Commissioner Stylianides is responsible for a wide ranging and important brief including the Emergency Response Coordination Centre, making sure that authorities in Europe are best prepared to manage natural and man-made disasters and ensuring that the correct funding is in place for all humanitarian commitments. Committee members warmly welcome Commissioner Stylianides to our meeting and look forward to an engaging debate on what is, a very important brief.”

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
