Social Protection Committee to discuss Labour Activation Measures

19 DFómh 2016, 11:19

The Committee on Social Protection will focus on labour activation measures at its meeting tomorrow, Thursday 20 October 2016 when it meets with officials from the Department of Social Protection.

Committee Chairman John Curran said: “Labour activation measures were a key issue identified and prioritised by the Committee in our work programme. Tomorrow we will meet with officials from the Department of Social Welfare to get an update on the current situation regarding labour activation measures. We will be particularly interested in hearing about the Department’s priorities in term of reforming State institutions to provide better services to people who are unemployed, engaging with people who are unemployed to deliver activation places and opportunities, incentivising the take-up of opportunities through back-to-work education and training so that unemployed people are better prepared to take advantage of opportunities and supporting employers in the recruitment of people who are unemployed. Members will also have an opportunity to raise any issues they may have in relation to labour activation measures and how they are implemented.”

This Committee will meet at 10am in Committee Room 4 tomorrow, Thursday, 20th October, with the engagement with Department officials starting at 10.15am
