Communications Committee invites expressions of interest in nomination to RTÉ board

27 DFómh 2016, 10:14

The Joint Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment is inviting expressions of interest from suitably qualified members of the public who would like to be considered for an upcoming appointment to the board of RTÉ.

A casual vacancy left by the resignation of Pádraig Ó Céidigh following his decision to run for election to Seanad Éireann currently exists on the Board. As Mr Ó Céidigh was appointed to the Board following the advice of the Joint Oireachtas Committee, in accordance with Section 84(12) of the Act, the Joint Committee must advise on the appointment of a person to replace him for the unexpired period of his term, that is, until 16 February 2020.

Chairman of the Committee Hildegarde Naughton TD says: “Oireachtas Committees are playing an ever more active role in the process leading to the appointment of Chairpersons to State Boards. In a similar vein and under existing legislation, this Committee also has a role in nominating individuals to the boards of RTÉ.

“We invite expressions of interest from suitably qualified people who would like to be considered to fill the vacancy on this important board with a view to considering them for nomination to the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment. Those putting forward their names should attach a short history of their work experience, detailing which of the criteria for appointment they satisfy, as well as a copy of their CV.\"

Further information on applying for this position is available here.

Expressions of Interest should be sent by email to: stateboards@oireachtas.ie and by post to:
