Petitions on unification and passport control among those to be considered by Committee

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions will meet tomorrow to consider a number of public petitions received.

14th November 2016

Petitions to be considered include:

•    Petition No P00013/16 – Extend offer of National Unification to Northern Ireland and Scotland;
•    Petition No P00014/16 – Petition for exemption from audit for small grassroots members driven volunteer political parties;
•    Petition No P00018/16 – Dedicated queues for Irish Citizens and their Non-EU family members at passport control;
•    Petition No P00019/16 – Unconstitutionality of the proposed Bill: \"Criminal Justice (Aggravation by Prejudice) Bill 2016;
•    Petition No P00026/16 – Petition to amend the driving test requirements.

Committee Chairman, Sean Sherlock TD, said “Our meeting tomorrow will see the Committee consider and action petitions in a wide range of areas. We will cover matters that include unification; passport control and Criminal Justice (Aggravation by Prejudice) Bill 2016.”

“The Petitions Committee is unique in its engagement with the public and its facilitation of direct democracy through the petitions process. Citizen engagement is vital to the process and as such, I invite the public to submit their petitions to us. Petitions can be submitted online or by post and further information and advice on submitting a petition can be found at petitions.oireachtas.ie.”

The meeting will start at 5pm in Committee Room 1, Leinster House, tomorrow, Tuesday 15th November 2016.
