Ceann Comhairle welcomes H.E. Mr. Ji Bingxuan to Ireland

Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó’Fearghaíl today welcomed H.E. Mr. Ji Bingxuan and Members of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China to Leinster House.

During the meeting, the delegation, led by Mr. Ji Bingxuan, had a formal exchange of views with the Ceann Comhairle, the Leas Cheann Comhairle, Pat The Cope Gallagher, and Brendan Smith, Chairman of the Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defence.

Cathaoirleach of the Seanad, Senator Denis O’Donovan, also hosted lunch for the delegation, before they were escorted to the Distinguished Visitors’ Gallery in the Dáil chamber, to take in proceedings.

Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó’Fearghaíl, said, “Ireland and China have enjoyed close relations for many decades now, and the Irish community in China is estimated to number up to 9,000. I am delighted to welcome our guests to Ireland and am pleased that these bilateral talks can facilitate a greater understanding of the issues that concern our two nations.”

“There are a number of Irish companies with significant investments in China and we are well placed to continue to grow these trade and investment links with our Chinese colleagues.”

Over the course of their visit, the delegation will visit some of the sights of Dublin and Kildare. These include the Book of Kells and the Chester Beatty Library in Dublin. The Ceann Comhairle also accompanied them to the Kildangan Stud and Pfizer in Kildare, as well as visiting Scoil Mhuire Senior School in Newbridge.
