Justice & Equality Committee to carry out scrutiny of Bills

The Joint Committee on Justice and Equality will carry out scrutiny of the Parole Bill 2016 [PMB] and the Prisons (Solitary Confinement) (Amendment) Bill 2016 [PMB] at its meeting tomorrow, Wednesday 15 February 2017.

The Parole Bill 2016 provides for the establishment of an independent parole board and the release on parole of certain persons found guilty of criminal offences and serving sentences of imprisonment or committed or remanded in custody.

The  purpose of the Prisons (Solitary Confinement) (Amendment) Bill 2016 is to amend section 35 of the Prisons Act 2007 to provide for specific provisions in regard to the use of solitary confinement in Irish prisons.

The meeting will take place at 9am in Committee Room 2, Leinster House, tomorrow, Wednesday, 15 February 2017.
