Age Action Ireland to meet with the Budgetary Oversight Committee in the context of Budget 2018

The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will tomorrow meet with Age Action Ireland to conduct a pre-budget hearing. The Committee will hear from Justin Moran, Head of Advocacy and Communications and Naomi Feely, Senior Policy Officer.

The meeting will commence at 2.00pm in Committee Room 2 tomorrow, Wednesday, 17 May 2017.

The Committee will have the opportunity to discuss a broad range of issues affecting older people in Ireland, in particular the demographic pressures that Ireland is facing in relation to the provision of services for older people and what improvements can be made.

Committee Chairman, John Paul Phelan TD, said “As Departmental work continues in planning for Budget 2018, tomorrow we will have the opportunity to hear from Age Action Ireland on a range of policy and budgetary issues that impact on their service delivery. Measures introduced as part of Budget 2017, such as the increase in the State pension, the reduction in the cap on prescription charges and the more general increase in the health budget, impact directly on those represented by Age Action Ireland and we welcome the opportunity to hear about how these changes benefitted recipients but also where improvements can be made.”

“Age Action Ireland will have the opportunity to highlight the areas of most need for their members ahead of Budget 2018 and how best they believe public funds can be attributed, through strategic Government policy, as estimates for public finances are finalised.”

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
