27 MFómh 2017, 10:41

The Committee on Social Protection will meet with Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection Regina Doherty tomorrow, Thursday, 28 September 2017 in relation to functional changes to the Department and its legislative agenda.

Committee Chairman John Curran said: “With effect from 1 September 2017, a number of functions were transferred from the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation to the Department of Social Protection and the Department’s name was changed to Employment Affairs and Social Protection to reflect this. Tomorrow, we will have our first meeting with Minister Doherty which will provide us with the opportunity to discuss the functional changes and new responsibilities at the Department, particularly in the area of employment policy. We will also discuss the legislative programme for the Department, in particular the Social Welfare, Pensions and Civil Registration Bill 2017 on which our Committee carried out pre-legislative scrutiny in May.”

The Committee will commence in public session at 10am in Committee Room 4 tomorrow, Thursday 28 September 2017.

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
