Budgetary Oversight Committee to begin post budget hearings

24 DFómh 2017, 14:33

The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will focus on equality assessment of Budget 2018 in the first of its post budget hearings tomorrow, Wednesday 25 October as part of its Pre-Budget Scrutiny Hearings.

The Committee will meet with representatives from Social Justice Ireland.

Committee Chair Josepha Madigan said: “Tomorrow, we will begin our longer-term post budget work programme in which we will assess the budget from a number of perspectives, including equality assessment, gender budgeting, climate change and investment in the capital plan. Tomorrow, Budget 2018 is being reviewed by the Committee from an equality perspective to assess its impact on various groups in society, such as the unemployed, low-income families, people living with disability among others. We will meet with representatives from Social Justice Ireland to discuss its review of Budget 2018. Among the issues, the Committee will discuss with Social Justice Ireland is the impact, from that organisation’s perspective, of budget 2018 on the different social groups and what recommendations should the Committee consider to ensure equality proofing of future budgets.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 1, Leinster House at 2pm on Wednesday, 25 October 2017.
