Ceann Comhairle express condolences on the death of Sean Treacy

26 Márta 2018, 14:07

Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann, Seán Ó Fearghaíl TD, has expressed his condolences on the death of former Ceann Comhairle Sean Treacy whose funeral took place today.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of my predecessor Sean Treacy who served as Ceann Comhairle from 1973 to 1977 and from 1987 to 1997 and I would like to express my sympathies to his family and friends. He represented the people of Tipperary South as member of Dáil Éireann for 36 years and also served as a Member of the European Parliament from 1981 until 1984, an extraordinary achievement. A popular and hard-working politician, he will also be remembered as a fair, objective even-handed chair of Dáil Éireann.  As a TD, MEP and Ceann Comhairle, he made an enormous contribution to his constituency and his country. At his funeral mass in Clonmel this morning, it was evident how Sean Treacey was held in the highest regard by the people of Tipperary and how he himself had focussed on providing them with diligent, honest and loyal representation. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
