Illegal dumping and environmental destruction will be on the agenda of the Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment at its meeting on Wednesday, 11 July.

Appearing before the Committee are:

Representatives from Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Representatives from Donegal County Council Representatives from Offaly County Council

Chair of the Joint Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment Hildegarde Naughton TD said: “The recent airing of Ireland’s Wild West: Illegal dumping in Donegal by RTÉ’s Primetime Investigates brought into sharp focus the problem of illegal dumping and waste disposal in Ireland. The consequences for the environment, the natural landscape and health and safety posed by illegal dumping cannot be overstated. At our meeting we will focus on this issue with representatives from the EPA, Donegal County Council and Offaly County Council. Among the issues we will cover are the scale of the problem; enforcement of waste and litter laws, penalties for illegal dumping; and how we can cut down on waste in the first instance.”

The Committee will start with scrutiny of EU Legislative Proposals:

Schedule A: COM(2018)340 on Reduction of the impact of certain plastic products;

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 3 from 1.30pm. You can watch committee proceedings here.
