Good Friday Committee to hear from Waterways Ireland & the Loughs Agency

7 Samh 2018, 16:13

The Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement will meet tomorrow to resume its discussion of the  work of the North South Implementation Bodies.

The following witnesses will appear before the Committee:

• Dawn Livingstone, Chief Executive, Waterways Ireland;
• Sharon McMahon, Designated Officer, Loughs Agency.

“As two of the North South Implementation Bodies, operating on an all-island basis with great success, Waterways Ireland and the Loughs Agency do valuable work in managing and developing aqua resources in the North, “ said Committee Chair, Seán Crowe TD.

“Our meeting tomorrow will see the Committee engage with both agencies with a view to finding out what impact Brexit is likely to have on their work, as well as learning more about what needs to be done to ensure that their cross-jurisdictional efforts are not hampered by issues around the border. The Committee has great respect for the work that the agencies do and we look forward to discussing how these cross border organisations can continue to be supported in that work, no matter what Brexit brings.”

The meeting will start at 2.15pm in Committee Room 4, Leinster House
