Rural and Community Development Committee to discuss Brexit challenges for border businesses

Scheduled witnesses include

• Anthony Soares, deputy director of the Centre for Cross Border Studies,
• Chief Executive Pamela Arthurs of the East Border Region;
• Cllr. Seamus Doyle, a member of Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Borough Council and an executive member of the Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA);
• NILGA Programmes Manager Lisa O'Kane;
• Aidan Campbell, policy and public affairs officer at the Rural Community Network, and
• Chief Executive Shane Campbell of the Irish Central Border Area Network.

“Brexit threatens to reverse the many years of progress in lowering barriers and raising business opportunities for our border communities,” said Committee Chairman Joe Carey TD. “While much remains fundamentally uncertain, the Committee will endeavour to identify policies and approaches that could help small border businesses, and the communities they serve, to cope with any envisaged post-Brexit challenges.”
