The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will meet tomorrow with Officials from the Department of Children and Youth Affairs, and Tusla.
The meeting will examine the 2017 Appropriation Account for Vote 40: Children and Youth Affairs.
In 2017 the Department of Children and Youth Affairs spent €1.25 billion out of an estimates provision of €1.31 billion in three broad programme expenditure areas: Children and Family Support Programme; Sectoral Programmes for Children; Young People and Policy and Legislation Programme.
€675m or 54% of the Department’s expenditure was allocated to the work and services of Tusla, the Child and Family Agency. Pobal which administers a number of programmes on behalf of the Government received substantial funding to address disadvantage and to support social inclusion.
Chairman of the PAC, Seán Fleming TD, said: “The Committee will be keen to learn more about the reasons for the significant level of unused budget provision in 2017 in view of the extensive waiting list for services. It will also be questioning the Department on how it exercises its oversight role for the agencies to which it provides public monies and how it ensures the effective use of these resources, and value for money for the taxpayer.”
The meeting will start at 9am in Committee room 3, click here to view
