2 Iúil 2019, 16:21

Department of Communications officials will discuss the National Broadband Plan at an Oireachtas Communications Committee meeting, tomorrow, Wednesday, 3 July in Leinster House at 5.30pm.

They have been invited before the Committee to provide information on issues that have arisen during the investigation that has been undertaken on the National Broadband Plan, entitled “An investigation to examine the National Broadband Plan process thus far and how best to proceed and the best means to roll out rural broadband.”

Their appearance is part of the Committee’s ongoing investigation into the National Broadband Plan (NBP) project to date.

Speaking in advance of the meeting, Committee chairperson Hildegarde Naughton TD said: “This is an opportunity for us to explore with senior officials from the Department the issues that have arisen in our hearings to-date. It will no doubt help us in our work as we examine the concerns around the roll-out of broadband to more than 500,000 homes and businesses. Those issues include value for money, cost-benefit analysis, the best ownership models and other issues.”

The proceedings which take place in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
