Rural and Community Development Committee to discuss rural spending

The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Rural and Community Development will review spending on projects in rural Ireland, tomorrow, Wednesday, 16 October, in Leinster House, Committee Room 4 at 10.30am.

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring will appear before the Committee.

The gross allocation for Vote 42 (Rural and Community Development) for 2019 is €291.2

million. This represents an increase of €52.4 million (26%) on the 2018 allocation. The Rural

Regeneration and Development Fund represents €52 million of this additional fund.

Speaking before the meeting, Committee chairman, Joe Carey TD said: “We welcome the Minister to our meeting for our mid year review of Outputs and Expenditure of Vote 42.

“Members welcome this opportunity to examine the Department’s spending in areas like rural development and community development schemes. We are interested in getting an update in all areas of spending including demand for the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund and the current situation in relation to the LEADER programme.”
