EirGrid chairman designate before Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment

25 Samh 2019, 16:49

The Joint Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment will hear from EirGrid chairman designate Brendan Tuohy, tomorrow, Tuesday, the 26th of November. The meeting will take place in Committee Room 2 at 2pm.

Mr Tuohy was appointed to the EirGrid board earlier this month. His appearance before the Oireachtas Committee of cross-party TDs and Senators, tomorrow is in line with revised Government procedures for proposed chairpersons of State boards.

Speaking before the meeting, Committee chair, Deputy Hildegarde Naughton TD said: “We welcome the opportunity to hear from Mr Tuohy as he embarks on his new role. His appointment comes at a challenging time for EirGrid, with increasing demand for electricity predicted over the next decade and a commitment in our Climate Action Plan that 70 per cent of electricity will be generated from renewable sources by 2030. We look forward to hearing Mr Tuohy’s views and plans on addressing these challenges.”
