Committee on Transport and Communications Networks to hear from CMO and Chair of NPHET tomorrow

2 Samh 2020, 13:32

The Committee on Transport and Communications Networks will discuss matters related to Aviation when it hears from Chief Medical Officer and Chair of NPHET, Dr Tony Holohan, tomorrow as a series of hearings about the topic continues.

The meeting with Dr Holohan takes place in Committee Room 3 at 11am (watch live), with the Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan, TD, due before the committee on Wednesday at 12.30pm in Committee Room 4 (watch live) to discuss the proposed traffic light system

These meetings are just the latest in a series of hearings to discuss the crisis in the aviation industry which has been devastated by Covid-19, and the air travel restrictions in place.

“The potential for Covid-19 testing at airports and HIQA’s recently published report into rapid testing will be central to the Committee’s discussions with Dr. Holohan”, explained, Committee Chair Kieran O’Donnell, TD.

“November 8 and the date for the introduction of the new EU Air Traffic Light System is less than a week away now, and in light of 140,000 jobs across the country, and thousands more in the tourism sector at stake due to the aviation crisis, the perspective of Dr Holohan and also the Minister for Transport regarding this issue will be timely.”
