6 Samh 2020, 12:06

The Committee on Social Protection, Community and Rural Development and the Islands have agreed to undertake a detailed examination and review of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) Scheme, as administered by the Department of Social Protection.

This will also include a review of the various relevant  Statutory Instruments issued since the start of the Pandemic as well as the Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme.

The Joint Committee will be seeking written submissions from members of the public and interested bodies on the operation of this scheme and how it is administered, and the request for submissions will be published on the Committee’s website.

Committee Chairperson, Denis Naughten TD, said: “TD’s and Senators have received numerous representations with regard to anomalies in the operation of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment as well as its interaction with other supports such as the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme (EWSS).

“As a result the committee are anxious to hear from members of the public impacted by the operation of this scheme. It is the intention of the Joint Committee to present a report of its findings to the Minister of Social Protection within a short timeframe of receipt and consideration of submissions.”

Those who wish to make a written submission, should do so to the Clerk of the Committee (via email) to spcri@oireachtas.ie no later than Monday 16th November 2020. Submissions received may be published on the Committee’s website and may be included in the Committee’s report to the Minister.
